Three Arrested for Kidnapping and Attempted Assassination of Financial Company Employee in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Racecourse Police have arrested three people accused of attempting to murder an employee of a private finance company in a moving car, after removing him from the busy VOC ground at Pointe d a knife in broad daylight.

S. Salman (23) from Pudhu Pallivasal Street in Sugunapuram, Akbar Sadiq (26) from Kadai Street in Madukkarai Market and Mohammed Askar (24) from Vincent Road were arrested for kidnapping and attempted murder P. Sonaimuthu (37), a resident of Sripathy Nagar on Nanjundapuram Road, on September 4.

Mr. Sonaimuthu, originally from Alanganallur in Madurai, works as a regional sales manager for a private finance company in Coimbatore. He is married and has one son. According to police, he moved to Coimbatore two years ago and worked in a private bank as a loan manager. He befriended a sales manager, namely Vijayalakshmi. The woman married Salman six months ago and adopted the name Riya Fathima after converting to Islam.

Police said Salman took offense when Mr Sonaimuthu and Ms Fathima continued to communicate by phone. On Sunday, Salman phoned Mr Sonaimuthu and asked him to come to the VOC Grounds for a talk. Mr. Sonaimuthu went with his friends to where Salman came with Sadiq and Askar in a car around 3:30 p.m. Salman questioned Mr. Sonaimuthu about the alleged telephone conversations and financial transactions that the latter had with Mrs Fatima. Later Sadiq and Askar beat him and Salman forced him into the car at knifepoint.

As the car was moving, the Accused attacked Mr. Sonaimuthu with a knife, causing him to bleed. According to the police, the car ran out of fuel on arriving at Athupalam and Mr. Sonaimuthu managed to flee. The man ran out of the car with bleeding cuts and people helped him into Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

Although the defendants left the vehicle and escaped, a special police team arrested them in the evening. They were brought before a court and were remanded in custody.
