SBI Customers ALERT! Fees for THIS service are waived – details

SBI ALERT: In a big relief to its customers, the State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the removal of SMS charges for mobile money transfers. It just means that customers of India’s largest lender can now transact easily at no additional cost. “SMS charges are now waived on mobile money transfers! Users can now easily transact at no additional cost using USSD services,” the bank said in a tweet.

What is USSD?

USSD or Unstructured Supplementary Service Data is a technology available on all mobile phones with an SMS function. This is typically used to check talk time balance or account information as well as other mobile banking transactions. USSD is a very beneficial facility for those who use feature phones. It should be mentioned that about 65% of the country’s population uses mobile phones.

How to use it?

To benefit from the service, SBI customers simply dial *99#. The service is absolutely free.

It is important to note that to benefit from the service, customers must have their mobile phone number linked to their bank account. Also, they must have an ATM/debit card.

Registration process for USSD

1. SBI customers should send to 9223440000. User ID and default MPIN will be sent shortly.

2. Change the default MPIN:

– Dial *595#.

– Enter the user ID, then select option 4.

– Enter the default MPIN received by SMS and send.

– Enter the new six digits or MPIN characters and send.

– Confirm the new PMIN and SEND

– You will receive a message saying ‘Your MPIN has been changed.

3. Register at ATM / Internet Banking / Branch

At the ATM: Go to the nearest ATM and swipe the debit card. Now select mobile registration > mobile banking > registration > enter your mobile number and confirm.

On line: Login to your SBI account > select eServices > State Bank Freedom from the list on the left side > Registration > Enter user ID and mobile number > Select the account (only SB/CA) to activate > submit.
