Harassed by a financial company, a young man hangs himself in Moinabad

Hyderabad: A 20-year-old man died, allegedly by suicide, at his Medipally home in Moinabad late Thursday night. The youngster, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his bedroom, was allegedly humiliated and harassed by officers from a financial company.

The man, identified as B.Vishnuvardhan, a tram driver, lived with his parents and had purchased the vehicle three years ago with a car loan from a finance company in Vikarabad.

Although he paid regular monthly installments in the beginning, later he was able to follow the payment schedule.

According to the police, the vehicle was seized twice for non-reimbursement earlier. However, he paid and took it back at the time.

Due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, he once again ran into a payment problem and was unable to pay installments for almost seven months. A debt collector from the finance company came to his home on Wednesday and warned that the vehicle would be seized again if he did not pay the charge. He was depressed and felt humiliated by it, police said, adding that it could have caused him to end his life by hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom.

Based on a complaint filed by Vishnuvardhan’s brother, a case has been booked and is being investigated. Police said that, based on further investigation, necessary action would be taken.
