Finance company director jumps from 5th floor of apartment in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 49-year-old man who worked as a credit manager at a private financial firm in the city killed himself by allegedly jumping from the fifth floor of the apartment he was staying at T Nagar on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Muthuraja of Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore. Police investigations revealed that Muthuraja’s family – the wife and a teenage son – live in Coimbatore while he lives alone in a flat on Raman Street in T Nagar.

According to the complaint of his wife, Vinodha, a lecturer at a private college in Coimbatore, Muthuraja used to travel to Coimbatore every fortnight. He recently returned home on August 27 and shared some workplace changes that affected him, police said.

After spending a few days in Coimbatore, the man reached Chennai on Monday. At around 6am on Tuesday morning, a resident of the apartment saw Muthuraja lying on the floor with bodily injuries and alerted other residents.

Pondy Bazaar Police rushed to the scene for information and transferred Muthuraja to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police suspect the man committed suicide by jumping from the flat’s fifth-floor terrace.

One case has been registered and further investigations are ongoing.
