EU Ambassador calls Miftah Ismail to Finance Division

Islamabad: European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Riina Kionka visited Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail at the Finance Division.

The Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr Aisha Ghous Pasha, the Special Secretary for Finance and senior officers attended the meeting.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail welcomed the EU Ambassador and highlighted bilateral relations and development cooperation between the EU and Pakistan. He said Pakistan attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with the EU, including its trade and economic relations. He stressed the need to further strengthen trade relations between Pakistan and the European Union.

The Minister of Finance also briefed the Ambassador to the EU on recent economic developments and the policies of the current government.

The Minister of Finance said that improving revenue collection, boosting exports, increasing remittances and sustainability of the energy sector are the main priorities of the current government.

The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation, including progress on GSP Plus.

Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka also highlighted the mutual relations between Pakistan and the EU in diverse fields and appreciated the ongoing economic reform program of the current government. The Ambassador also supported Pakistan’s efforts to advance GSP Plus and extended her cooperation.

The Minister of Finance thanked the EU Ambassador for her cooperation and assured her of the full support of the Ministry of Finance.
