Cork GAA has confirmed Rosscarbery man Denis Calnan as its first full-time chief financial officer.
He has a long association with the GAA, having served his club Carbery Rangers as President, PRO and currently as Treasurer.
Mr. Calnan (50) will be responsible for financial management, control and treasury in all aspects of Cork GAA.
He is a Chartered Accountant with experience in a variety of different industries including the renewable energy sector, private industry and multinational organizations such as Kerry Group and EY.
He has a proven track record in financial management, control and reporting, having served as financial controller at GP Wood and as project manager on a number of renewable energy projects.
The nomination process was overseen by Chairman Marc Sheahan, Treasurer Diarmuid Gowen, Ger Lyons (Audit and Risk), Michelle McAleer (Croke Park) and CEO Kevin O’Donovan.
He will report to the CEO and Cork GAA will say this will allow Cork GAA to maximize business opportunities while providing financial stability and creating a sustainable future organization.
Marc Sheahan said: “We are delighted to have someone of Denis Calnan’s caliber and experience joining the Cork GAA team. He has gone through a rigorous interview process and we are very fortunate to have obtained his services.”
CEO Kevin O’Donovan added: “This is another step in the right direction in stabilizing and further expanding Cork GAA’s finance and business functions. Uí Chaoimh, as well as One Cork, Rebels’ Bounty and many other initiatives.”
Cork GAA expects to appoint a commercial director in the coming months.
