BJP official arrested for assaulting financial company staff in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News


KALLAKURICHI: A BJP official was arrested in Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday on charges of assaulting a private finance company employee who came to collect loans obtained by his wife.
The arrested man was identified as S Maruthu alias Irudhiyaraj, 46, who is a civil servant from Ulundurpet Municipal Unit of the BJP.
Police said Maruthu’s wife, who is a member of a women’s self-help group, obtained a loan from a private finance company but failed to repay the loan installments on time. An employee of the private firm, B Balaguru, 27, went to the town of Maruthu on Tuesday to collect outstanding loans.
Upon hearing that Balaguru had come to collect the loans, Maruthu assaulted him and brutally attacked him with a log. Balaguru was injured and rushed to Ulundurpet Government General Hospital.
He complained to Ulundurpet Police, who registered a case under Sections 294-B (obscene acts and songs), 323 (punishment for willfully causing injury), 324 (willfully causing injury by weapons or dangerous means), 341 (punishment for unreasonable coercion) and 506 (2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Maruthu.
