Salary: $65,290 – $86,207 plus superannuation
Location: Canberra

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are building a talent pool to fill future vacancies at levels 3, 4 and 5 of the classification to take on mid-level finance roles across a range of work areas within the Delivery and Ministry’s Financial Services Transformation (FSB). These positions are ideal for candidates wishing to develop their finance skills and gain a better understanding of the department’s domestic and international financial operations.

APS Level 3 Finance Officer – Finance Division

To be effective in these APS 3 roles, candidates will:

  • work experience in an accounting, finance or related environment is desirable but not essential, with
  • experience in basic and technical capabilities (see above), including strong communication skills with proven ability in:
  • establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders,
  • work as a team within a team,
  • solve problems and achieve results in a timely manner, and
  • exercise personal judgment and responsibility

APS Level 4 Finance Officer – Finance Division

  • Our ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and experience in an accounting, finance or related environment. You will have knowledge of software applications in MS Office suite, SAP and other departmental applications.
  • In order to be effective in their role and meet our expectations, the APS Level 4 Finance Officer will:
  • Accountable (under limited direction) to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. This includes an ability to interpret and understand relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and departmental financial frameworks, policies and processes.
  • Possess highly developed communication skills to provide guidance and assistance to stakeholders to achieve Financial Operations Section and departmental results. Use their highly developed interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with team members and work collaboratively within the team.
  • Undertake financial research and analysis and provide procedural and operational support to the Department and overseas posts.

APS Level 5 Finance Officer – Finance Division

  • Our ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and experience in an accounting, finance or related environment. You will have knowledge of software applications in MS Office suite, SAP and other departmental applications.
  • In order to be effective in their role and meet our expectations, the APS Level 5 Finance Officer will:
  • Accountable (under limited direction) to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. This includes an ability to interpret and understand relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and departmental financial frameworks, policies and processes.
  • Possess highly developed communication skills to provide guidance and assistance to stakeholders to achieve financial operations section and departmental results. Use their highly developed interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with team members and work collaboratively within the team.
  • Undertake moderately complex financial research and analysis and provide procedural and operational support to the department and overseas posts.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must be Australian citizens.

The department requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance (or Baseline, Negative Vetting Level 1, or Positive Vetting (PV) where positions are designated as such in the DFAT security framework or organizational chart. PV, respectively). Loss of a security clearance at any time may result in termination of employment. Employment with the department may, however, begin with lower-level clearances or without clearance, under certain circumstances, and the department will work with you to facilitate this if you are successful.

Depending on the role you are placed in, you may be required to obtain and maintain a record of working with vulnerable persons/children (or equivalent).
