Alert staff thwart financial firm’s robbery offer in Pune | Pune News

PUNE: Staff members from the Hinjewadi branch of a private financial firm thwarted a four-man robbery attempt on Monday afternoon.
Despite being held at gunpoint, employees demonstrated presence of mind and pressed the siren button, prompting the suspects to flee the scene. Sanskruti Sharan (26), the branch manager of the company, filed an FIR with the Hinjewadi police.
Balkrishna Sawant, senior police inspector in Hinjewadi, told TOI: “There were gold crores inside the branch. But due to the bravery and courage shown by the employees, the suspects did not steal anything. We have some clues on the suspects and will arrest them soon. The finance company, located on the first floor of a building at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Hinjewadi, has separate access from the outside.
Police said at around 2 p.m. on Monday a man showed up at the branch claiming to get a loan for gold ornaments. There were four employees, including the manager, at the time. After gathering relevant information, he told employees that he would come back with gold ornaments. “In a few minutes, the man returned with three of his accomplices. He pulled out a gun and asked the employees to hand over gold and silver to the branch, ”Sawant said.
“The manager and other employees sounded an alarm and pressed the siren button. As soon as the siren went off, the thieves escaped from the place, ”said the chief inspector. He said the finance company has installed a system that allows any employee to access the siren button in an emergency. A team of Hinjewadi police arrived at the scene.
“The complainant was able to give the description of three suspects. Our probe is on, ”Sawant said.
