Ut deposits ₹72l with civic body to change service lines | Chandigarh News

Chandigarh: Chandigarh administration has deposited Rs 72 lakh with MC including contingency amount to relocate water and sewer services for UT’s ambitious underpass construction project for pedestrians on the road between PGI and the University of Panjab (PU) in Madhya Marg. The MC has now prepared a financial estimate of Rs 70 lakh for the works under the tender process.
Several utility lines, like sewer line, water distribution line, water supply, water supply lines, etc. cross the underground area of the site. All of these lines must be staggered for work to begin. The storm line will be moved by the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Administration.
While depositing the money to the MC for the transfer of water and sewer services, UT said: “Responsibility for the report, rates and design of the estimate rests with the MC in accordance with the CPWD manual. No changes in material or cost or scope of work will be made without the approval of the authority having jurisdiction. Currently, there are two pedestrian underpasses in the city at Sector 17/22 dividing the road and Sector 16/17 dividing the road at Rose Garden. According to the plan, this will be the city’s first pedestrian and wheelchair underpass project, with special provisions for patients and the elderly.
Since thousands of people cross this road daily and the number of patients visiting PGIMER is quite large, the path for pedestrians and wheelchairs will be approximately 15 meters. Stairs, elevators and escalator facilities will be provided in the area, so that patients and the elderly can use it easily. Keeping financial viability and source of income in mind, the authority planned eight to 10 stores in the underpass. As the total road width of the two venues, including ramps and overpasses, is about 38 meters, the project has been designed in such a way that people can easily use it. UT’s interior secretary, who is also in charge of the finance secretary, will hold a meeting on Monday to discuss the project and finalize the documents.
