Jacob Cook named to SEC community service team for fourth time

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For an incredible fourth straight year, the male golfer from Kentucky Jacob Cook was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for his outstanding efforts in the community.

Cook has appeared in 32 career events and paced the Wildcats for the duration of the 2021-22 season. The Frankfort, Kentucky native leads the UK in scoring average (71.39), top-10 finishes (five), normal or better rounds (17) and has the Cats back in the NCAA regionals with an appearance in Columbus, Ohio, regional scheduled to begin Monday.

Additionally, Cook is a two-time graduate of the University of Kentucky. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in management in 2020 and completed his master’s degree in finance last week. He was also selected to the SEC varsity team in each of his first five seasons with the program.

He is one of the captains of the UK team and continues to give back in various ways. Cook served on the Kentucky Student Athlete Advisory Council and served on the leadership team for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program for much of his career.

In the summer of 2019, he took part in a mission trip to Nicaragua. Cook participated in a variety of activities including breakfast with Santa Claus, bowling with Special Olympics participants, cooking and serving dinner at Ronald McDonald House, and packing and delivering food as part of the God’s Pantry Backpack program.

Cook took part in the PGA’s Barbasol community event at the UK Children’s Hospital. Twice Cook served as the UK Representative to the SEC SAAC at the SEC’s offices in Birmingham, Alabama.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he had to be innovative in how he could give back. He found a way to use Zoom and visit patients at UK Children’s Hospital.

All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a community service team since 2004. The team honors student-athletes beyond the field for their continued efforts in the community.
